Privacy Policy

The short version

Chord Sequence works without an account. You can build chord progressions, play them, transpose them and export audio without giving us anything at all. Saving is the exception: to keep a song in a library that follows you between devices you create a free account with an email address and a password, and the songs you save are stored on our servers. They stay private to you unless you choose to share one. We also use Google Analytics to see how the site is used.

What data is stored — and where

Some of it never leaves your device. The app keeps the following in your browser, using the Web Storage API (localStorage):

• Your work in the bass and guitar tab editors, saved as you type
• A draft of the chord progression you are editing, so it survives a reload
• App preferences — metronome settings, custom rhythm styles, how you like chord names written, whether you have seen the intro
• Your login session token, if you are signed in

We have no access to any of that, and clearing your browser's site data erases it.

The rest is stored on our servers, and only if you create an account:

• Your email address and a securely hashed password
• The songs you save — title, chords, tempo, sections and playback settings
• Custom rhythm styles you have saved to your account

This is held in Supabase, the database service behind the app. Saved songs are private to your account unless you share one.

Accounts and saved songs

Creating an account is optional — every tool on the site works without one. You need one only to save a song to a library that follows you between devices. Saved songs are private to your account by default: the Share button makes a single song readable by anyone holding its link, and you can switch that off again at any time. To have your account and everything in it deleted, contact us at the address below.

External requests

The app loads the following third-party services:

• Google Fonts — to load the Inter, Lora, and Space Mono typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Google may log your IP address and browser type when these fonts are requested. This request does not set any tracking cookies and is not used for advertising. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
• Google Analytics — to measure how the site is used: pages viewed, which tools get opened, roughly where visitors come from. It sets cookies (see below) and Google processes the data under its own Privacy Policy. We use it to decide what to build next, not to identify anyone.
• Supabase — the database and sign-in service. It is contacted when you create an account, sign in, or save, load or share a song. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.

No advertising pixels or ad networks are loaded by this site, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone.

Hosting and server logs

Chord Sequence is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may collect standard server access logs (IP address, browser, pages visited, timestamp) as part of normal web hosting operations. This data is processed by Netlify under their own Privacy Policy. We do not access individual server logs for tracking or profiling purposes.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. We set none of our own: everything else the app remembers — your session, your drafts, your preferences — lives in localStorage, not in cookies.

Children's privacy

The tools themselves can be used by anyone at any age — without an account we hold nothing about you. Accounts are a different matter: they are not intended for children under 16, since creating one means giving us an email address. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and if you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account, you can ask us at any time for a copy of what we hold about you, for a correction, or for the whole lot to be deleted — account, saved songs and settings. Write to the address below and we will do it. You do not need a reason. If you use Chord Sequence without an account there is nothing to request: we hold nothing that identifies you.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If the change is a material one and you have an account, we will also let you know by email. If you use the site without an account we have no way to reach you, so check back here if you have concerns.
